Fair Average Quality (FAQ) is the benchmark grade for natural Robusta coffee in Uganda. It describes a clean, well prepared coffee of average cup quality for the season, free from faults that would disqualify it from export. Because it is a standard rather than a single flavour, FAQ gives roasters a dependable starting point to build blends on.
FAQ Robusta is graded by screen size. Larger screens generally mean more body and crema. At CabLinks we supply Screens 18, 17, 15 and 12. Screen 18 is the boldest, Screen 12 offers dependable value for high volume blends, and the middle screens balance both.
Quality is never left to chance. Every lot is cleaned, hulled, graded and colour sorted. Samples are cupped before shipment, and quality reports accompany our offers. That is what turns a commodity grade into a dependable ingredient.
Buyers often ask how FAQ compares with specialty coffee. Think of FAQ as the solid foundation of a commercial blend: consistent, full bodied and priced for volume, while specialty lots take centre stage in single origin offerings.
