THE BUSINESS MODEL

Our business model is underpinned on the principles of passion to deliver highest standards of integrity, supply of highest quality product, swift response, reliability and love and happiness in going about our tasks.

We aggregate our coffee mainly through individual farmers and farmer groups, and to a small extent agents and local traders. We meticulously source our Arabica coffee from the regions of Kigezi, Rwenzori, West Nile and Mount Elgon. On the other hand, our Robusta coffee is sourced from the Central, East Central and Western regions of Uganda.

A specialty coffee brand grown in southwestern Uganda, particularly around the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga National Park. The initiative goes beyond offering premium coffee by emphasizing social impact and environmental conservation.

A non-profit company, limited by guarantee. Its membership include coffee exporters, coffee processors, farmers and companies that supply equipment and supplies to coffee exporters and processors, clearing and forwarding companies, insurance companies, banks and international coffee trading houses in Europe.

UGANDA COFFEE SECTOR BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Coffee is one of the most important cash crops in Uganda playing a major role in the livelihoods of many poor people and is a major foreign exchange earner in Uganda. Coffee is the second largest valued commodity in international trade and most widely traded tropical agricultural commodity after petroleum. In the East African Community, Uganda remains the leading exporter of coffee. Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), the government agency responsible for the sector, estimates that about 1.8 million households depend on coffee production.

Latest data from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) shows that farmers exported 6.13 million 60 Kg bags of coffee for the 2023/24 season, worth 1.14 billion USD. In August 2021, Uganda leapfrogged Vietnam to become the second-largest supplier of coffee to Italy. Uganda is currently ranked as Africa’s second largest coffee producer and the leading coffee exporter.

In the year 2020, Uganda coffee was ranked 3rd best in the world, by professional coffee tasters, who are certified by Coffee Quality Institute (CQI). The tasters graded 1,229 coffees from 16 countries, with Uganda coming in third with an average rating of 84.05. Ethiopia and Kenya took the top two spots, with average ratings of 84.88 and 84.31, respectively.

There are two main types of coffee grown in Uganda namely Arabica and Robusta coffee. Annual production on average is made up of 15% Arabica and 85%.
