Uganda grows both Arabica and Robusta, and each plays a different role in the cup and in the market. Arabica is grown in the highlands: Kigezi, Rwenzori, West Nile and Mount Elgon. Robusta thrives in the warmer Central, East Central and Western regions.
Arabica is prized for brightness, complexity and sweetness. Robusta brings body, crema and a bold, nutty profile treasured by espresso blenders. Uganda is the leading Robusta exporter in East Africa, and demand for both species continues to grow.
Harvest timing varies by region, but the main crop runs roughly from November to February. We plan aggregation with farmer groups so that lots move quickly from farm to store, preserving quality from the very start.
For buyers, the choice is rarely either or. Many of the world’s favourite espresso blends pair a Robusta base with Arabica for aroma. Our export desk is happy to help you match grades to your roast profile and volume.
